About Kerry
Kerry Candarakis resides in Southern Sydney.
A contemporary artist she explores many different mediums that include ink, acrylic, oil, pastel, bitumen, rust and wax, pretty much anything that she finds. In an effort to best convey her intentions.
Experimentation & materiality is key to Kerry's practice, with this concept she works in series. She uses a diverse range of subject matter, both in abstraction and reality Kerry aims to create an emotion or feeling with her work. Continually evolving and pushing her practice to master a style, a medium or colour combination.
Kerry has had nine solo shows and many group exhibitions. She won the prize of her first solo show at NG Contemporary in July 2016. This was quickly followed by finalist selection at a number of exhibitions, ie Hunters Hill Art Prize, Hunters Hill Pop Up art prize, Springwood Art Prize, The Chippendale New World Contemporary Art Prize, Oatley 101 Art Exhibition, Thirroul Art Prize, and Lindfield Art Exhibition to name a few.
In 2023 Kerry was selected in AAD Gallery’s ‘Women in Art’ for International Women’s day. In June 2023 she exhibited with Bay Window Gallery at the Affordable Art Fair Sydney with Bay Window Studio Gallery. She has exhibited in The Other Art Fair 2017, Melbourne and The Other Art Fair in Sydney in March 2018, March and October 2019.
In May of 2019 Kerry undertook her first art residency in NG Art Residency, Eygalieres, Provence.
2024 saw Kerry embarking on her latest residency at The Foundation for the Arts Skopelos @Skopart. Three weeks spent creating work and research for her series - Skopelos. Work completed at home and exhibited in May 2025.
2025 informed a new body of work 'Bloom' as a tribute to her Dad.
Kerry studied at TAFE, Hazelhurst Gallery, and attended a multitude of workshops, with many
artists, including Nicholas Harding, Patricia Griffiths, Peter Sharp, Alexander Mackenzie and many more. This led her to undertake a Master of Art (Painting) at Art & Design at UNSW to broaden and direct her practice.
Plagued with ill health, nothing has stopped her determination to 'create'. It has been a source of constant joy and learning that has driven Kerry to paint.
